Beginning Your Journey

Posted By Merideth Mehlberg March 18th, 2013

journey-single-step_#3Sometimes, the first step is the hardest one.

It’s so easy to procrastinate and keep putting things off, especially things you dream about for your life. But if you truly desire change, taking that first step is crucial.

It tells your brain that you ARE doing this. Whatever “this” is—changing your career, your health, your lifestyle. When you take that first tiny step, it’s no longer some distant, vague hope far away in the future. By taking steps to achieve it, you make your dream real—and harder to ignore.

Maybe that first step is buying a guidebook for a place you’ve always wanted to visit. Maybe it’s signing up for a class to explore a new field or hobby. Maybe it’s throwing out all the junk food in your cupboards to stop tempting yourself. Or maybe it’s just telling someone else about your plans to start your own business.

Your first step may be small, and it may require many, many more steps to follow in order to make your dream a reality, but it’s where we all begin and where change happens.

However long the journey, you can’t complete it until you start it.

So, what’s stopping you from taking your first step?

There will never be a “perfect” or “right” time to make a change. The best time is—you guessed it—right now.

What is one small step you can take today to move yourself towards your dream for your life? Tell me in the comment section below, I’d love to hear from you!

The big green meanie (and how to stop being jealous of others)

Posted By Merideth Mehlberg December 10th, 2012

Have you ever looked at the way someone else lives and felt green with envy?

You know, wanting what they have in their life, professionally or personally, or both?

Face it, we all have.

We’re naturally drawn to what we are looking for in our lives, and when we find it in someone else, it’s normal to covet it.

Whether it’s someone’s:

  • Career that seems effortless—and it’s one they love
  • Marriage or primary relationship where they share so many interests and finish each other’s sentences
  • Physical body that is fit and beautiful from exquisite personal care

This desire can serve to inspire us, to want to make us strive for what we really want in our lives.

Or, it can be destructive and deceptive.

Why?

Because we are looking at someone’s outsides and comparing it to our insides.

What we can learn from Legally Blonde

Posted By Merideth Mehlberg October 25th, 2012

I’ve got a bone to pick today.

I’m so sick of people saying that they can’t have what they want because of:

  • the state of the economy
  • Having chosen the wrong career, life partner etc.
  • having taken the wrong job
  • having children (or not having children)
  • (insert other reason here)

Now, I’m not ignoring that things are tough out there these days. I know that all kinds of suffering is going on…financial and otherwise.

AND, if you have been considering making a change in your life but have been hesitating because of one reason or another, I want to give you a kick in the pants.

You may be asking: How does Legally Blonde fit into this?…

If it scares you, you’re on the right track

Posted By Merideth Mehlberg August 24th, 2012

I’ve been noticing a pattern lately with my clients…and with myself.

We all have a big hairy dream that makes us shake with excitement and fear.

Whether it is:

  • Writing a book
  • Going back to school
  • Running a half-marathon
  • Releasing excess weight
  • Changing to a line of work that is more fulfilling, or
  • Finally launching a new product into the marketplace

We all have something we dream about accomplishing that scares the sh*t out of us.

Can you relate?

What I know is that when you come across the dream that makes you quake in your boots, it is a sign that you are on the right track.

Yes, you heard me correctly, I’m saying that…

The Mystery of the Princess Party

Posted By Merideth Mehlberg April 26th, 2012

“Mommy, for my birthday party, I want it to be princesses.”

Shocked, I held my breath for a moment.

I could not believe those words had come out of my toddler’s mouth.

“Okayyyyyy…” I mumbled. “Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

Some context: Our almost 4-year old daughter has never before shown any interest in princesses. We don’t watch Disney princess movies and she doesn’t even know the characters’ names.

…But I sure do:  Belle, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine, Snow White, etc….

The Power of a Vision Board and How to Create One

Here’s my second video blog, this time on Vision Boards.

I’m loving this video blogging thing!

What’s included in your prize package?

Posted By Merideth Mehlberg March 30th, 2012

I LOVE the show “Project Runway.”

Last night, I watched the finale.

Unlike prior seasons, this time popular previous contestants were invited back to compete in an all-star round for some outrageously good prizes.
While usually the winner walks away with $100K, this season’s winner received a LOT more. The package was crafted to transform the designer’s life, making his fashion dreams come true.

The winner received:

  • A special boutique within Neiman Marcus to sell his merchandise
  • A photo spread in Marie Claire magazine and a position as a guest editor for one year
  • $100K in technology and office space to grow his business
  • A sewing and embroidery studio
  • $100K in cash

As the TV show host said, “That sounds like a life-changing package to me.”

Well said. Every time the rewards were mentioned, you could see the contestants’ eyes light up. The package represented an open door to the lifestyle they all craved.

Why am I telling you this?…

I don’t want to be that guy

Posted By Merideth Mehlberg August 22nd, 2011

I have a weird story to tell you.

Last weekend we took a road trip and stopped at a gas station for some fuel. I went into the little gas station store to buy some drinks for my family. As I approached the cash register, I noticed a guy in front of me.

Normal stuff, right?

What was interesting was what he was doing….
